Who We Are
Black Market Comedy has been the Rogue Valley’s renegade power plant for stand-up for nearly two decades. Born from the ashes of Ashland’s breakout comedy scene in the early 2000s, we’ve spent 20 years proving that great comedy doesn’t just pass through Southern Oregon—it plants roots.
What started as a guerrilla crew of open-mic lifers—Scott May, Dan McLaren, Jennifae Cleveland, and the gloriously offensive minds of Talent Roast Society—has evolved into something bigger. The original members moved on. The scene didn’t.
Today, under the direction of Levi J. Anderson—an original founder of 2001’s The Smile Factory—Black Market Comedy produces live shows and independent comedy specials that put Southern Oregon on the comedy map.
What We Do
Live Shows.
From underground rooms to ballrooms and sold-out theaters—proof that authenticity sells—Black Market Comedy produces high-concept destination events. We book regional headliners and build weekends, not stop-offs. Comedians don’t pass through the Rogue Valley anymore. They stay.
Comedy Specials.
Since 2024, we’ve been producing professional video content for artists’ promotions and full-length comedy specials for streaming platforms. The same guerrilla energy that packed rooms in Southern Oregon now breaks through the monotony of cookie-cutter comedy on global apps.
The Vibe
Think punk rock ethos meets comedy hustle. Grunge-era DIY, bootleg renegade energy—but with the polish to play in premium spaces. We’re as comfortable in a dive bar as we are positioning comedians for their next big break.
Black Market Comedy isn’t a pit stop. It’s a destination.
